Getting my hair done on my wedding day!
This advice doesn't apply to all vendors. But, it does apply to your make-up artist, photographer, videographer and florist. You can save a lot of time by first calling and asking if they have a website. If they do, great! Check out their site and see if they're style fits with yours. If they don't have a website, ask them to send you pictures of their sample work.
One time, I had a make-up artist drive to my house, and she did my make-up. I kid you not, I looked like a purple clown afterward!! I couldn't believe that she considered herself a professional make-up artist. Okay, maybe she was, but not for BRIDES!! I think her specialty was in runway make-up or something. Nonetheless, I really looked hideous and wasted time and money by not asking for he sample work.
Side note: Bridal make-up is different because the make-up has too look natural and soft, yet it also has to last for the entire wedding! Make sure your artist has done bridal make-up before!!
Tip #2: Ask for Referrals
Ask your friends who have already gotten married for their list of vendors. This will help save time researching and calling around tons of places. Also, ask your venue and vendors for their list of vendor referrals. Don't be afraid to ask your photographer if they've worked with a certain videographer. Or if your photographer has worked with any wedding coordinators. The wedding business tends to be a pretty small world. You might be able to get some good advice on the best vendors in your town!
Tip #3: Ask How Much
Ask the venue or vendor what their prices are before meeting with them. If they're not willing to tell you any price, just say "Is it within the ballpark of $80 per plate?" This will help you quickly eliminate which venues and vendors are within your budget.
